Wix Young Farmers are a large and active club with our 20-35 members spread out over the Tending Hundred from Colchester to Harwich. The club has a really good mix of young and old, with agricultural and non-agricultural background. This helps to create a fun and lively atmosphere which transfers well into club life.
We have a good competitive edge on the sports field winning a number of county competitions on the netball court, football pitch and hockey field. Winning the county mixed hockey allowed us to represent Essex and the Eastern areas at the National Young Farmers Finals weekend in 2006, we went on to win the final hockey tournament which made us National Champions!
The club organise events like the legendry ‘Free booze’ summer party, Spring Ball, Tendring Show tent, Christmas and Harvest Suppers. The club raises money for local charities by participating and organising in sponsored bike ride, log chops, carol singing and helping small local shows.
The club meets each week throughout the year at the Kings Arms Pub in St Osyth at 8pm on a Thursday night, with visiting speakers and socials. During the year normally there will be something going on in and around Wix making for a very action packed social calendar. So don’t miss out, get involved! |
